Brushcutters: Courses may be standard Lantra or NPTC approved or can be tailored to your specific needs. They can be for new employees requiring basic training to refresher courses for more experienced operators. All courses will be run by instructors with wide industry gained experience. Courses can be run at your own location or at one of our sites.
Tree Planting
We are happy to advise and undertake tree & hedge planting schemes of whatever size from ¼ acre upwards. We can supply any size of tree, including semi-mature and suggest the most appropriate species & method of protection against browsing by deer, rabbits etc. Whether farm woodlands, existing forests or landscaping around new buildings, car parks etc. we will be pleased to help.
Fencing
We can supply and erect any sort of timber, wire or security fencing. Recent work includes deer & rabbit fencing, stock fencing, post & rail, close board, chain link and tennis court fencing, even fencing against wild boar. We are happy to make a site visit, survey and measure the line and give a fixed price quote for the work.
Weed Control
More trees die each year from lack of weeding than any other reason. Did you know that cutting the grass around a tree is worse than not cutting it? The best way to establish a tree is to maintain at least a 1m weed free area around it for 4-5 years after planting. Weeding is far cheaper than replacing failed trees.
One of our specialities is weed control and vegetation management. We can offer a wide range of options for weed control around trees, along hedgerows and controlling difficult weeds like Ragwort, Japanese Knotweed, Himalayan Balsam and Rhododendron. All our operators are fully certified and use the latest sprayer technology and the most efficient pesticides to do the job as quickly and economically as possible. We have no minimum area or number of trees and are as happy to spray 50 as 50 000. We have a range of both hand held and mechanised sprayers to carry out the work efficiently.
Bracken Control
Bracken is an invasive and poisonous plant. It can quickly colonise and take over land if not controlled. Each year we spray around 600 acres for a range of clients particularly The Ministry of Defence and The National Trust. We use the latest spray equipment and herbicides and usually guarantee at least an 80% success rate. Timing is crucial to successful control and generally can only be done during July and early August. We are usually very busy during this time so early booking is advisable. The herbicide of choice is Asulox. This is a very safe yet effective herbicide controlling only Bracken & Docks. It can safely be applied over young plantations, trees and grassland without causing damage. All our operators are fully certified.
Ragwort
A single plant can produce 150 000 seeds with a 70% germination rate, Each seed can lie dormant & viable in the ground for 20 years. Any bit of root left when it is dug up will re-grow. 2lb of fresh ragwort will kill a horse. This is cumulative and will cause progressive and irreversible liver damage. There is no cure. It is an Injurious weed under The 1959 Weeds Act. It is now a legal requirement for an owner to control Ragwort on their land, whether grazed or not.
The most effective treatment is by spraying 2-4D herbicide from late April until early June when the plant is growing actively. Once it has started to flower it is almost impermeable to herbicides. Spraying is relatively cheap costing no more than £35 for on acre, less for larger areas. This is far cheaper than the death of a horse. The herbicide will also control many other pasture weeds such as creeping buttercup at the same time. Animals will need to be excluded for at least two weeks following spraying. Applied correctly it will not damage grass.
Site Clearance
We can arrange for sites to be cleared of any vegetation whether it is woodland infested with Rhododendron or a field or paddock overgrown with brambles, nettles and young saplings. We can also remove tree stumps from any location. We have a range of machinery available from chippers & mulchers to excavators to carry out the work as effectively and economically as possible.
